How does Eddie Murphy plan on resurrecting his flagging career? With Nutty Professor 3, it seems…

Every time we hear of a new Eddie Murphy project now, we're left more often than not thinking he's getting further and further away from the comedy genius of old. His latest live action film, A Thousand Words, continues to languish on the shelves with no sign of a release (more on that here).

And at one stage, we put together a list of the ten things that Eddie Murphy needs to do to resurrect his career, right here. We might be going out on a limb here though, but we've got a strong inkling that Eddie hasn't read it.

As he's been undertaking promotional duties for the incoming Shrek Forever After, Murphy has revealed to Access Hollywood that the project he's currently working on is a third Nutty Professor movie.

It was at this stage that our head hit the desk.

We're not being snobbish about this - in both Nutty Professor films, particularly the first, there's at least five minutes' worth of laughs to be had. But seriously? Eddie Murphy back to playing multiple characters and spinning out the kind of jokes that you can't help feel that back in his stand-up days he himself would have sneered at? That's going backwards, not forwards, surely?

Anyway, Murphy told Access Hollywood that "You know what, there might be another ‘Nutty Professor,' ...We kind of wrote something that might be kind of funny."

Make of that what you will.

Murphy also revealed that the mooted fourth Beverley Hills Cop movie appears to be in some kind of limbo. "I don't know what's going on with that," he revealed.
