Superman Returns sequel underway
Simon Brew
After the muted response to Superman Returns, there was some doubt as to what shape a further sequel would take. But the answers are coming....

After a great deal of speculation that it wouldn’t be happening, that it would have a new star, or even a new director, the brand new Superman film is now, apparently, underway.
What’s more, in spite of those stories that he may be walking away from the franchise, Bryan Singer is back on board, although whether it’ll end up being called Superman: The Man Of Steel remains to be seen. Singer’s return is also likely to cement Brandon Routh’s position in the leading role, which had been under threat thanks to the new cast of superheroes being put together for the in-production Justice League film, also on Warner Bros’ roster.
It’s also likely to mean a return for Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth. Sadly, it also looks like they’ll have to pick up that tedious plot strand about Son Of Supes.
Singer, to be fair, took two stabs to make his best (and, er, the best, to be fair) X-men film, and the new Superman is still quite early on in its development life. We’d suspect we’re looking at a 2010 release, with a new Batman film the following year.

Will Routh be putting his tights on again?
