Cher for Catwoman? Depp for Riddler?
Martin Anderson
Holy casting weirdness. Maybe The Telegraph has been dropping some shrooms at the UK bank holiday weekend...
According to The UK's Telegraph, Oscar-winning singer Cher, 62, is in talks with Christopher Nolan to play Catwoman in the follow-up to The Dark Knight, whilst movie maverick Johnny Depp is set to be The Riddler.
The Telegraph reports a studio executive as saying "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years...the new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations."
The new film, according to the piece, will be called The Caped Crusader and will begin principal photography in early 2009.
One-time pop sensation Cher has 'come back' often enough to make John Travolta look like the new kid on the block, reviving her pop career in the 90s with the hit song 'Believe' and re-inventing herself as an Oscar-winning actress in the 1980s, in films such as Moonstruck, The Witches Of Eastwick, Silkwood and Mask.
Depp has been a popular forum choice for the maniacal Riddler, but I dunno about this. Believe it if you can at the link below...

Re: Cher for Catwoman? Depp for Riddler?Cher as Catwoman doesn't seem nearly as bad as Depp playing the Riddler - he's so, so boring.
Re: Cher for Catwoman? Depp for Riddler?Ahhhhh I Believe The Word I'm Looking Is For Is "What The Fuck ?!?" Cher Is Catwoman, Not Listening, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La, La ;-)
Re: Cher for Catwoman? Depp for Riddler? This can't be real. Isn't she a little bit too old? Plus she's not exactly the greatest actress around..... Meh, I'll believe it if Nolan himself told me, until then I'm just gonna ignore it all!
Re: Cher for Catwoman? Depp for Riddler? She's a fine actress, and an Oscar winning one. I'm on the record as promoting the use of older women, but 62 is pushing it, and the evidence of her plastic surgery is so extensive...dunno really, seems crazy. |
