Obsessive site Of The Day: Scary dolls
Gaye Birch
Whatever small aspect of movies or life you can think of, there's a whole website somewhere obsessing about it....
Published on Feb 13, 2009
My last contribution of the week may be elbowing the confines of this category a bit, but I'm sorry to say I couldn't find a site that was expansive enough to fit into my topic snugly.
I did suspect that a lot of people shared my fascination with scary dolls (mostly down to a recurring nightmare I used to have long before I witnessed Trilogy of Terror, Chucky, or any other animated plastic or wood with winky eyelids). And I found them, on Flickr, pooling their spooky doll pics - 1,762 of them.
The most frightening are the 'normal' dolls intended for small children, that have aged or been mutilated over the years. And the ventriloquist dummies! Mulitiple movies have been based around our fear and dread of those. Magic with Anthony Hopkins and Ann-Margret and The Twilight Zone or Outer Limits episodes come to mind.
Apparently, unwittingly scary dolls are getting hard to find, and new horror doll makers are now designing dolls with the chief intent of terrifying. *shudder*
