New Zelda to feature multiplayer?
Zelda producer, Eiji Aonuma, has hinted that the next core Zelda title may include multiplayer, but not in the usual sense...
The Wii U is about to receive a full HD remake of Wind Waker, and the 3DS has the retro-tastic A Link Between Worlds, but there's also another new Zelda coming, and producer, Eiji Aonuma has hinted at some changes.
Talking to Nintendo Life, he mentioned the possibility of Zelda exploring the world outside of single-player. However, he was keen to point out that if implemented, such a feature would not be the typical multiplayer experience.
Instead, he mentioned more subtle method of bringing players together.
“In saying it’s not a single-player or lone experience, I didn't necessarily mean multiplayer. There has actually been multiplayer in Zelda games, in Four Swords for example. But for example in Wind Waker, with the Tingle Bottle - it's not a traditional multiplayer experience but you certainly have the feeling that other people are exploring the same world and sharing information. So that's one way that I meant that it's not a single-player experience. We'll continue to explore different ways of opening up this world beyond a single-player experience, but that's not necessarily to say that there will be typical multiplayer.”
Does this mean that Zelda will take a page out of the Demon's/Dark Souls book of online action? Will Link be able to find helpful messages from other Links, or will players have a more direct impact on each other's games?
Time will tell, and will also reveal the new art style, which the new Wii U game has been reported to feature.
