Trailer for Video Games: The Movie

News Simon Brew 18 Jun 2014 - 06:48

A brand new documentary is incoming, charting the rise of videogames from the early days through to today. Here's the trailer.

We're surprised that there haven't been more documentaries along these lines, so we're really quite looking forward to this. Video Games: The Movie is going to tell the story of gaming, from the very early days, to the multi-billion dollar franchise-dominated world of today. Directed by Jeremy Snead and executive produced by Zach Braff, Sean Astin narrates this one. It features interviews with lots of interesting people to do with videogaming as well, right down to Nolan Bushnell.

Here's the trailer for the film, which gets a limited theatrical opening in the US and a video on demand release in July. Looks interesting...

Is there going to be a video game adaptation?

Other good video game documentaries are; "Chasing Ghosts", "High Score" and "King of Kong".....Any others people?

Yes, I believe so. Then they'll make a book based on the game, and then a movie based on that. That's how it works, right? ;-)

Awesome! I'll wait for the facebook game based on the movie from the novelization, though. Ain't got time for nothing else.

Indie Game: The Movie is an interesting one too.

I think it looks a bit awful really. Some annoying soundbites in that trailer. Hopefully the full film is an insightful look into the growth of the medium.

Let's hope the film is about ALL video games - trailer seems to focus on action/fighting ones - supporting the cliché among non gamers that all games are about is shooting.

Charlie Brooker's - How Video Games Changed the World. It's still saved on my Sky Box and gets a viewing every few months. Might still be on 4od or YouTube. I am blaming him for me going out and buying a PS4 the day after it aired.

King Of Arcades (funded on Kickstarter) has just been released on DVD in America, my copy arrived this week.

Oh, I can't wait for the FB version of the game, let's hope it regularly asks me to ask my entire friends list for help so that I can get the golden joystick.

What? No Elite in the trailer? The one game that kickstarted the open world revolution? Gah!

Still looks pretty cool though :)

I'll wait for the DoG review of the movie based on the book based on the game...

King of Kong is SUCH a good film.

They could easily turn that documentary into a Comedy film.

Staring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

Called 'Kings of Kong'.

Ok, I'm copyrighting that whole idea ASAP before Hollywood does it first.

I really liked Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters. Its about the first Tetris world championship and recounts the stories of the Tetris players and the effect it has had one their lives. It's really good but maybe not as an enjoyable as King of Kong.
