PS1 and PS2 games coming to PS4

PS3 games will be joined by older PlayStation classics on PS4, according to online sources...

It's being reported over at Eurogamer that Sony is planning to roll out a whole boatload of legacy emulation, and it's not only going to be made possible by the cloud.

Eurogamer claims that a 'well-placed source working with Sony's streaming service' has revealed that the PS4 will only use the cloud to achieve PS3 emulation. For older, PS1 and PS2 emulation, it'll use it's own local hardware and software, much like the PS3 did.

Unlike the PS3 emulation of the older generation of PlayStation, the PS4's revising of the classics will also contain the possibility of HD enhancements. This should produce a far clearer and much better looking legacy emulation than the PS3.

Titles will no doubt appear on PSN for download in time, as they did on the PS3, but hopefully the selection will be more varied and complete than we saw last generation.

Local emulation will please many, although it's likely that the same options will also appear via the new PlayStation Now service too.

ah great, this is just what I wanted with my unholy powerful games machine, the ability to play dated cruddy games...again

There are a lot of people who still cherish and re-visit their ps1/ps2 collection, especially jrpg fans.

Great, now I want to play through Grandia again...

Better not be like the so-called "import" section of the PS1 stuff implying American and Japanese games for Europe only for us to just get NTSC versions of games we already had (nice though) or a whole bunch of Monkey Paw games. Where was the Chrono Cross and Xenogears loads of people were screaming for. Hopefully this time they expand that library of games...

I'm sorry you can't enjoy things. It must be frustrating as hell.

The PS4 is just not something I'm interested in at the moment. Having more PS1 and PS2 games on it is definitely nice, but I'll be waiting for actual exclusives. In the meanwhile I'll just keep using my PS2 and PS3.

This would be the best thing ever especially if they can make some old classics into online multi players, at the moment my ps4 is gathering dust as there's only FIFA and cod that are any good and I'm bored of them now. Can you imagine Road rash, destruction derby, touring cars as online multi players omg I need to play with myself
