Grand Theft Auto Online revealed
Rockstar has lifted the curtain on Grand Theft Auto Online, and we've got the details and video here...
Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most hotly anticipated titles of the year, and along with what looks to be the biggest and best story in the series so far up its sleeve, there's also the promise of an all new online experience. Called Grand Theft Auto Online, this mode is set to be an online open world like none before it, and now we have some brand new details.
Grand Theft Auto Online will feature a wide-open and persistent world for players to explore, and there's going to be a ton of activities and features to get stuck into. Containing preset, structured activities, as well as being open enough for layers to come up with their own random bits of fun in, this will be an online world all about the player, and shared experiences.
After stepping foot into Los Santos, you'll be able to explore on your own, or make friends and indulge in a slew of activities. You can simply rampage around, stealing cars and getting into trouble, or you can get a little more organised and team up to form a crew and stage heists and smaller scale robberies to earn cash.
This cash can then be used to customise your character, weapons and vehicles, and when you earn enough you can even buy apartments to invite your friends to, and garages to store your fleet of cars.
You'll also earn a reputation as you play and complete missions, and other activities, and should you wish to, you can still take part in the more traditional competitive deathmatch-style play too.
Rockstar has committed itself to keep developing new content for the online portion of GTA V, and this will be augmented by the new user creation tools. These will allow players to create their very own races and deathmatch areas. These can then be shared online with others, making for a constant stream of new activities and content.
You can see the official trailer below for all the juicy action, and Grand Theft Auto V will be released on September 17 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Grand Theft Auto Online will launch on October 1, and every copy of GTA V will grant access to it.
