A HD revamp of the original Far Cry is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 next month...

Ubisoft recently announced Far Cry: The Wild Expedition, which is a compilation of the first three Far Cry games, along with the standalone DLC, Blood Dragon. The collection includes the original, previously PC-only Far Cry (not the mediocre Instincts version console owners were given) in a new HD format. The package will retail for £29.99 and releases on February 14 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

What if you've already got Far Cry 2, 3 and Blood Dragon, though? As a console-owning series fan, that's most likely. Well, don't fret, as Ubisoft has also announced that the HD version of the original Far Cry will also be made available via XBLA and PSN for £7.99. Hoorah!

The new HD version isn't a simple visual touch up, according to Ubisoft, and it also features new foliage tech, real-time day and night cycles, as well as flying vehicles (above and beyond the hang glider, possibly).

The original game is a, ahem, far cry from the sequels (Blood Dragon aside), with a sci-fi plot and more traditional, linear play, but it still possess wide open levels giving you plenty of freedom, and if you've not played it, it's well worth the eight quid.
