Wanted: Donkey Kong Jenga
Aaron Birch
Gaming doesn't get any more 3D, as Donkey Kong exits pixel-land for the wooden world of Jenga...
Nintendo fans with a penchant for knocking over towers of wooden blocks rejoice! US-based board game manufacturer USAopoly have released a very retro version of family classic Jenga. This special edition stars a couple of Nintendo's longest running icons, Donkey Kong and Mario.
Donkey Kong Jenga is just as it sounds - A collection of black, wooden blocks painted up with the original iron girder graphics from the retro classic, Donkey Kong. Along with the basic blocks, the pack also includes four Mario playing pieces, a Donkey Kong and Pauline piece and an instructional spinner.
It can be played just like the normal, vanilla version of the game, but with the use of the playing pieces and the included spinner, this is no ordinary Jenga. You can inject some Nintendo goodness into the block-toppler, with the aim of getting Mario to the top of the tower to rescue the ever-in-peril damsel from the angry ape's clutches.
Sadly, there's no elaborate barrel rolling or hammer smashing on offer here, but the set looks great and will make an excellent addition to any Nintendo-maniac's collection of paraphernalia.
With the Jenga-esque Boom Blox already on the Wii, and the poor implimentation of a Jenga TM Wii release, this may be the best bet this year for true Jenga fans. It'll only be available in the US to start, but with any luck, will hit our shores soon after
Release Date: September 24, 2008 List price: $24.99
