Diner Dash Seasonal Snack Pack PC review

More Diner Dash! Even if it's more of the same!

Just when you thought the creators of the franchise had run out of ideas – out comes another Diner Dash release. This time we have Diner Dash Seasonal Snack Pack. Yes, Flo is back, and this time she is seasonal!

There’s nothing drastically different about this game – in fact, it’s more of the same but simply with different restaurants. However, to fans, this isn’t a bad thing. It’s more of what we enjoy with a variant setting. Flo is the same positive girl, always out to help others when they get into a bit of a pickle. In this game, she’s stepping in to turn around five different restaurants and cafes, which are: Coral Cove Café, Crypt Café, Hometown Harvest, Winter Wonderland and Romantic Rendezvous.

Each restaurant is themed; for example Coral Cove is in a water park and every so often, a happy punter on a rubber ring will go whizzing past on the Lazy River ride. Flo serves summery food and drinks and has her work cut out keeping everyone happy. Veterans will have absolutely no problems getting into the swing of things and will be happy to check out what’s happening in the background as the game ticks along.

Something that stood out for me in this game is the quality of the storyboards in between restaurants, explaining why and how Flo has to go and help out. Perhaps I’m starting to take more notice of these things than I used to, but it seemed like the developers were making a real effort to tell a story instead of just plonking some themes on the restaurants and letting players get on with it. It definitely added something to the experience.

The restaurants are really cleverly put together, and there’s always some new novelty to notice. My favourite theme was the Crypt Café – set in a haunted house, some of the punters are not – shall we say – human, and there are bats, zombies and spiders hanging around, not to mention the portrait of the creepy count Flo is working for. Every so often his eyes will flick around the café, giving a sense of unease.

The music really topped the Seasonal Snack Pack off. So many casual games have irritating or nondescript music that turning the volume down is the usual coping mechanism, but in this, it really added to the experience. They’ve obviously taken time and care to make this right, and it’s paid off. Diner Dash Seasonal Snack Pack is basically more of the same, but if you enjoy Flo and her antics, you won’t want things to be too different. So you could do much worse than downloading this and passing a few pleasant hours. Veterans won’t find it particularly challenging, but I think they’ll have fun regardless.
