We’ve already reported on the stock shortages this week that have hit the latest Nintendo hit, Wii Fit. It seems there are still problems with people trying to get hold of a copy of the game, in spite of its £70 price tag, and given reports from Currys about the title’s performance last weekend, that’s hardly surprising.
The chain reported that across PC World, Dixons and Currys outlets, one copy of Wii Fit was being sold on average every four seconds, which perhaps gives a clue as to where half the stock allocation seemed to go. It’s their fastest selling game ever, apparently.
The game has shot into the top slot on the weekly Chart Track charts, accompanied by the claim that one in ten Nintendo Wii owners picked up a copy of Wii Fit in its first two days on sale. Yikes.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has confirmed that it’s churning out more units, and sending more stock into the retail channel every week. Speaking to games trade website Gamesindustry.biz, a Nintendo UK spokesperson confirmed that more copies were coming.
We wonder how many will still be in use two weeks after they’ve been bought though, or will they sit in living rooms across the country next to a pile of fitness DVDs still in their shrink wrap?
