Nintendo announces 2DS console - intro trailer here
Nintendo has announced a cheaper, 2D-only version of the 3DS. See the 2DS introduction trailer here...
Now, here's a bit of a surprise. Although the Nintendo 3DS has well and truly overcome the wobbles it suffered on its initial release, the company's clearly been thinking of ways to make the console cheaper and more attractive to an ever broader audience.
To this end, it's unveiled the 2DS, a handheld that has all the features of the 3DS - except, of course, its 3D display. This will make it less pricey than its counterpart - Game has set its price at £109.99 in the UK, but we may see prices drop a little further on release - and the new design, which does away with the hinged screens in favour of a flat, tablet-like format, suggests a console designed for a younger audience. After all, without those hinges, the device should be more durable in more enthusiastic, youthful hands, even if it isn't quite as compact.
The 2DS will be released on the 12th October, timed to coincide with the launch of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. In the meantime, here's the launch trailer.
