Aliens: Colonial Marines still coming

The squad based shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines has definitely slipped to 2010. But at least it’s still happening…

Published on Jun 16, 2009

When we got a trailer for a new Aliens Vs Predator game earlier this year, the only pause for thought in our mind was wondering just what had happened to the squad-based shooter set in the Aliens universe, Colonial Marines? We'd been looking forward to that.

The original intention, so we believed, was that the game – being developed by Gearbox – would be arriving in 2008, then 2009, but then word came through of it being pushed back to 2010. And then: nothing. Rumours of cancellation swirled, and when nothing was heard for a period of time, we suspected – along with a few others, we’d imagine – that it had dropped off the schedules altogether.

Only it hasn’t. Over at Kotaku, they’ve been speaking to Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford, who has confirmed that it’s still full steam ahead for the game. Pitchford confirmed that the game definitely won’t be arriving in 2009, and that clearly points the way for a 2010 release. The site has also discovered that a Nintendo DS version is planned, bizarrely. No further details on the game's development emerged, however.

You can read the story here, and for now, we’re just grateful it’s still going ahead. Touch wood that it lives up to even half of its potential…
