The next Assassin's Creed has been officially revealed, and it's all about the booty...

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, has been officially revealed, and as speculated by many rumours prior to the official reveal, the game will centre around 1715 Caribbean waters, and will play heavily on the naval elements seen in Assassin's Creed 3.

The story will revolve around Edward Kenway, and will chart his fall from grace as a Royal Navy privateer to a notorious pirate during the end of the war between the major empires and power bases of the known world. As well as new characters to the series, the game will also introduce such infamous faces as Blackbeard, Benjamin Hornigold and Calico Jack, and will feature over 50 new locations all ripe for the pillaging. Although the game will feature many of the game mechanics from AC3, it'll also be a very different title, with plenty of new tricks.

Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft said. “With the new hero and new setting we are creating the boldest and most unique Assassin’s Creed game yet, while still respecting the pillars of the franchise that have made it such a fan favorite,

“Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is based on a true, harsh and exciting part of a legendary era and will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike.”

The game will not be overly naval in nature though, despite the new setting, and it will apparently feature a 60/40 split of mission on land and sea, with land-based inclusions still getting the lion's share of the story.

Many weapons will return, including hidden blades, swords, spear dart and so on, as well as new additions like a blowpipe and pistols. The game will also bring back more of a focus on stealth, something that the last couple of games have embraced less and less.

Also announced for next gen consoles, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has a release date of November 1 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC, and you can see the debut trailer below.
