The Last Of Us 'Hush' trailer

Trailer Aaron Birch 2 Mar 2013 - 13:27

Naughty Dog talks about the infected foes you'll encounter in The Last Of Us...

As much as we all like to take a shotgun to a zombie's head, there's no denying that the shambling undead have been pretty much done to, er... death of late. This is a fact that Naughty Dog, developer of Uncharted and the upcoming The Last Of Us, has noted, and is striving to move away from reanimated corpses in its next creation.

In this latest teaser for The Last Of Us, the development team talks about the infected, one of the foes you'll encounter in the ruined world. These infected are no zombies, not even of the 28 Days Later variety. Instead, they're poor souls that have been infected by a fungus. This fungal takeover is clearly shown as the mushroom cups grow out of their very bodies in a rather horrific manner.

Now robbed of vision as we know it, these infected people hunt their prey by using clicking noises and echo location, and aim to spread their spores wide and far. It sounds quite odd, sure, but as demonstrated in the trailer below, it's also quite unnerving, and you'll probably never look at a button mushroom in Tesco the same again.

The Last Of Us will be released on PlayStation 3 on June 14.
