Ubisoft is to officially unveil the next Assassin's Creed, called Black Flag, next week...

After a few weeks of rumour, speculation and leaked details, Ubisoft has confirmed that the next Assassin's Creed is, indeed, called Black Flag, and along with the official box art, has announced that it plans to reveal the game on Monday March 4.

In the statement, Ubisoft said "We confirm that Ubisoft will announce all the details of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag on Monday March 4th at 5pm GMT."

The game is, according to the previous leaks, going to be based in and around the Caribbean, circa 1715, and will take in such locations as Cuba, the Bahamas and Jamaica. The new protagonist will be Edward Kenway, the father of Templar, Haytham Kenway, who was introduced in Assassin's Creed III.

Edward will, of course, be an assassin, as well as a privateer, which is good news, as the ship-to-ship combat sections of AC3 were one of the game's stand-out features, and an expanded version of this mechanic could be very impressive.

Full details will come next week, but along with the box art, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will release for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC, with the PS3 version getting an exclusive 60 minutes of extra gameplay.
