The next crime spree from Rockstar, GTA V has a release date, and it’s a little later than expected…

Rockstar has finally announced a solid release date for the next instalment in the GTA series, and it’s not going to be in the spring, as previously revealed. Instead, the game will arrive on September 17.

The delay is, according to the official press release, to allow the development team some additional time to fine tune the game. The game is set to be, as the release also says, “The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world Rockstar Games has yet created, Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game’s three lead characters, playing all sides of the game’s interwoven story.”

The fifth main game in the series is to take place in Los Santos, GTA’s take on Los Angeles, and looks to bring back some of the crazy and varied gameplay seen in San Andreas.

The game will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but details on a possible PC port are to be confirmed.

Disappointing news.

And this is why I don't give anyone pre order money. No guarantee of delivery and not protected from issues affecting the games studios themselves.

not good

I preordered it. It doesn't guarantee delivery on a certain date as you said. I think of pre orders more as layaway before release when it comes to pre ordering from GameStop since you can put a little down here and there till you pay it off. Not sure how pre orders work online or other places. There is no point in pre ordering to guarantee yourself a copy because there will be plenty to go around when it comes out. I'm getting a nice return on my income tax this year so I figured I'll just pay it off now and get it out the way.

agreed and pre order will be a thing of the past unless they give freebies as when you have outlets like steam and orgin plus the digital console shops ur gaurenteed to get a copy so why pre order

Jesus. If its going to be this late, they must have know there was problems, even before Christmas, so why leave the release date as spring 2012? September? Thats 8 months away, almost a year in time. Its either in a real mess, or its no where near ready, or they have found some epic problems with it, which they have only just noticed. Wonder what is going on. Oh well, maybe this means it will be a better game when it does come out. God knows what the PC port over will be like. Does that mean we would not get a Pc version until spring 2014 now?

Ugh, PC port.

I wonder if the extra time needed is to get it sorted for the next gen consoles?

So they decide to release it a few months prior to the next gen consoles coming out? Silly choice that one considering the rumors surrounding the non backwards compatibility of games for the next gen consoles.
