Hitman: Absolution Ultimate Assassin trailer
47 is back later this month in Hitman: Absolution, and this trailer shows you why you should respect the notorious virtual killer…
Starting out life on the PC back in 2000 with Hitman: Codename 47, IO Interactive’s assassination simulator was performing cool takedowns and stylish kills long before the Assassin’s Creed series was born, and before Dishonored was a mere spark in someone’s creative mind.
The bald-headed and bar-coded clone, 47, clad in sharp suit, white shirt, and his characteristic red tie, starred in a distinctly unique challenging game that forced players to plan their moves and think out of the box if they were to achieve their lofty goals.
Rather than simply promoting the usual (for the time) running in guns blazing tactics, the Hitman series challenged players to examine the environment, and any and all resources available, such as weapon loadouts, gadgets, disguises, hiding places and more, in order to craft some clever takedowns.
By this, I don’t mean, do you kill your mark with a gun or a knife? Or even, do you approach from route A or route B? Oh no. These hits are vastly more complex. Do you sneak in disguised as a guard, bypassing security and shoot your mark in the face? Do you poison a meal and, disguised as a cook deliver the deadly repast to the kitchen, before making your exit prior to the deed going down? Or, do you create a distraction using fire alarms, and in the commotion, sneak into secure areas, kill your mark and then, after donning a fireman’s outfit, simply walk out unnoticed? That’s not before using the kitchen’s dumb waiter to send your gun up to the required floor so it doesn’t set off the metal detectors on the lifts, of course.
These kinds of complex plans are staple affairs for the Hitman series, making it more of a thinking man’s assassination ‘em up. And, after a long hiatus, 47 is back, at the end of this month in a new adventure that promises to endow this impressive gameplay with the latest tech to produce the best Hitman yet.
To demonstrate how skilful 47 is, and to elaborate on the freedom you’ll have in the new game, Hitman: Absolution, the latest trailer bigs up 47 as the ultimate assassin, and details his almost superhuman senses and reflexes, manifested in the game as a range of user aids.
Players can access 47’s considerable sensory talents to avoid guards, make that elusive long-rage headshot and even predict the future, and, if you’re a Hitman veteran, you can even challenge the ‘purist’ mode, where you can attempt to be as good as 47 himself.
Hitman: Absolution is due out on November 20 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
