Trent Reznor composing music for Black Ops 2
The man behind Nine Inch Nails is contributing to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s soundtrack...
Trent Reznor, most famous as being the mind behind industrial band, Nine Inch Nails, as well as contributing to a plethora of other artists, movies and games, has announced that he’s working on a track for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Reznor, who, in an interview with USA Today, has stated that he’s very much into gaming, confirmed that he’s a big fan of the CoD series, and has “"always looked to that franchise as the cutting edge of what seemingly unlimited budgets and full-on not cutting any corners can do in the current day and age.”
"I have been wildly enthused about gaming since I was younger," he said. "And a career path I chose not to go down but did really consider was getting into programming and game design."
This isn’t too hard to see, as Reznor has contributed to gaming in the past, most notably id Software’s Quake, as well as releasing an alternate reality game alongside the Year Zero album.
The music for Black Ops 2 won’t be the usual scene-stealing score, however, as Reznor stated that he’s not working on "a big orchestral, Hollywood-y feeling, traditional-type patriotic score".
"I was intrigued by the idea that they were willing to get out of the zone with something a little bit different
"What I did was present them with the concept of 'Let's have it arranged semi-orchestrally, but let's have the voice be an instrument. Let's veer it more toward guitar, bass, drum rock band aggression."
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set to release on November 13 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, with a Wii U version also confirmed. In the meantime, take a look at the new ‘Villain’ trailer below.
