Xbox 360 falls below £100, Wii under £150

Simon Brew

It ain't a bad time to buy yourself a new games console, thanks to a new supermarket promotion...

Published on Oct 6, 2008

The recent raft of price cuts on the Xbox 360 console announced by Microsoft had already taken the entry level cost of the Arcade unit down to a tasty £129. This made it the cheapest console of the current generation on the market, undercutting the Wii by a cool £50. The fact that this particularly version lacks a hard drive shouldn’t be overlooked, of course, but it’s still a good deal for a good machine.

However, enter stage left the supermarkets. Because Sainsbury’s has now announced that it’ll be running a price promotion on games console hardware in a brand new promotion that’ll be running through until October 12th. The deal will chop the cost of an Arcade 360 to £99.97, and also coming down is the price of the Xbox 360 Premium – replete with 60GB hard drive – to £139.97.

Furthermore, the Nintendo Wii – which has never yet had a manufacturer price cut – is coming down to £149.97, knocking £30 off the price. With no further price cuts on the machines expected this side of Christmas, it might be worth doing the old festive shopping early…

Fantastic news, for anyone thinking of getting one, splash out the extra £40 for a premium the hard drive is essential for downloading movies, games, demos etc. Just realised this sounds like an ad, but I'd encourage anyone to get a 360.

Would anyone begrudge me having 2 XBOX 360s?? Just for those cold winter days when i cant drag my self out of bed!! Thinking about it, how would that work with profiles between 2 machines if i bought the premium?
