The return of Captain America

James Hunt

Be warned: spoilers for Captain America #600 lie ahead...

Published on Jun 17, 2009

Marvel Comics have announced that Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, will be returning to life in a five-part miniseries entitled Reborn, written and drawn by superstar creators, Ed Brubaker and Brian Hitch. In Captain America #600, the secret agent (and Rogers' love-interest), Sharon Carter, realises something about the original killing, and dramatically reveals to close allies that they might still be able to save Steve Rogers.

Rogers originally died in 2007 after being gunned down on the steps of the courthouse in the aftermath of Marvel's 'Civil War' event. It is currently unknown how he will return to life, nor is it known what will become of his former sidekick Bucky, who currently occupies the Captain America identity - a character many readers have come to prefer to the original.

Captain America #600 is in shops this week. The first issue of Reborn will be released to comic shops on July 1st (July 2nd in the UK).

I am enjoying the NEW Captian America too much to give him up so fast. Is this just to put the book in line with the Movie "The First Avenger" I always knew Steve was "Gone" just on vacation. I hope they hold off on the mini series

I'd imagine that even if the original returns to the role, Bucky could still remain a superhero in his own right. Just a hero by a different name. (He'd be the same character beneath the mask after all.) The act of killing characters off then bringing them back is a bit silly though.
