Captain Britain has been formally cancelled, confirms its writer…

Published on May 20, 2009

Den Of Geek hero Paul Cornell - the man behind Doctor Who episodes such as The Family Of Blood and Father's Day - has announced on his blog that Captain Britain and MI-13 is to come to an end.

He's confirmed that #15 will be the last issue of the comic, which has become something of a fan favourite. In his post, he also clarifies a few matters. Firstly, that when rumours of Captain Britain's cancellation were spread on the Internet a few months ago, there genuinely was no truth in them. And also that, in his own words, "While we didn't know this would be the last arc until comparatively recently, I had it in mind that it was possible it would be from the time I started plotting it."

He goes on to say that "the end of this arc marks the end of what I had planned for the book when I started".

Talking about the remaining issues to be published, he says that "I think the Annual and the two remaining issues finish off one of my best stories in any media, and that story is actually the entirety of Captain Britain and MI-13.  You'll see what I mean a bit more next issue.  This is a comic with a proper ending.".

Also, we had the great pleasure of chatting to Paul Cornell earlier in the year. You can read what he had to say here.

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. One of the best superhero comics of recent years. The only consolation is that Paul's stock at Marvel seems to be pretty high, and it looks like he has a fair few projects with them in the pipeline. But I'll miss these characters.

This blows besides Iron Fist its one of the best books out there. It takes the magic and makes it understandible to people who don't know a lot about it. More people should have read it.
