Spider-Man 3: 3 stars
Spider-Man's back on the big screen, which is awesome no matter what happens in the movie. Isn't it?

I'm blogging this instead of writing a real review because at this point I'm not really able to be objective. Watching Spider-Man webslinging around on a massive screen - and fighting Venom, at that - is great fun in my book, so no matter how bad the film was, I probably would have enjoyed it anyway...
And I did enjoy it. It's a little overlong, it's a little overwrought, and there are too many villains. The Sandman, basically, is pointless, and the resolution of his story is more than a little morally questionable; but the special effects are breathtaking, which makes up for it.
There are plot inconsistencies, there are really silly moments, and Venom's tongue is entirely absent.
But I still really enjoyed this movie, from start to finish.
Most other film critics seem to be coming to similar conclusions: it's a three star movie, there's some wasted potential, it's a bit overlong and some of it should just have been written out. But at the end of the day, it's fun. Which is all anyone should ever ask of a summer superhero movie.
And that new trailer for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer looked wicked.
