Adrian Mole author Sue Townsend has died, at the age of 68.

Some sad news for you this morning: the author Sue Townsend has died, at the age of 68.

Townsend will hold a special place in the hearts of many of us for writing the Adrian Mole series of books. She published eight in all, and had plans for a ninth book. Those plans were put on hold when she suffered a stroke at the end of 2012. The final book in the series is likely to remain 2009's (excellent) Adrian Mole: The Prostrate Years.

Townsend also had a number of other popular novels to her name (including The Queen & I and The Woman Who Went To Bed For A Year) and several plays.

She died after a short illness, and will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts, as always, are very much with her friends and family at this time. Our appreciation is with Sue Townsend, who leaves behind a collection of books, some of which may well outlive us all.
